FAQ
WHY DO NEWBORNS ENJOY BEING CARRIED?
In close contact with their parents, newborns find the familiar bearings of intrauterine life (warmth, smell, heartbeats). They also experience the perception of movement that is absent when they lie in a cradle, and thus they calm down.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF SKIN-TO-SKIN CARRYING COMPARED TO CARRYING IN A BABY-CARRIER?
Newborns pressed against their mother in skin-to-skin contact perfectly maintain their temperature by direct transmission from their mother’s skin, which is not possible when the baby is clothed. They are also held closely in place and can easily access the breast.
HOW DID THIS TECHNIQUE DEVELOP?
The skin-to-skin carrying technique, also called the Kangaroo method, was initially used in Colombia, allowing the very tiniest premature babies to survive because it uses all the innate maternal skills (the mother herself serves as an incubator, stimulating and feeding her baby as frequently as necessary).
WHICH CHILDREN CAN BENEFIT FROM SKIN-TO-SKIN BANDS?
The Peau à Peau baby band is designed for carrying babies up to 4 kg. It can be used in neonatology, in kangaroo rooms, in maternity wards or when returning home.
WHAT DOES THE PEAU À PEAU BABY BAND LOOK LIKE?
It is worn as a “top”, several sizes and colours are available: M, L, and XL.
